Rodney Jerkins Chooses Bag End

Prosound news, ProAudio Review – 2010

Los Angeles, CA – Rodney Jerkins, founder and owner of Darkchild Records has installed Bag End subwoofers in his facility, Studio Atlantis.

Purchased in February 2009, Jenkins has since worked diligently to upgrade both the studio building and its recording equipment to meet Darkchild’s demanding standards. The original two studios have been increased to five that are currently active, and a sixth is in the works. Bag End subwoofers were among the first pieces of equipment chosen for installation.

“When competing for a spot on the top ten Billboard chart,” states Jerkins, “we rely on Bag End to give us the low end reference we need.” Jerkins says that he chose Bag End subs because of their theater-like quality. “You don’t just listen to the music, you feel it.”

So far in 2010, Darkchild’s record “Telephone” by Lady Gaga  featuring Beyonce has been number one on the charts, and Jerkins has followed that with a new mix tape and album featuring the new sound he has developed for Purple Reign, his female R&B group. His goal is to bring back the “real”sound of R&B.

The Darchild Studio equipment includes Bag End D10E-I subwoofers, Ausberger in 5.1 KRKEBTs and Yamaha NS10s, all working through an SSL 9000J console. Production equipment includes a Yamaha Motif X57 and Motif Rack X5, Dual AKAI/MPC 3000, Access Virus TI and Logic Pro. Outboard consists of an AMSNeve 1081 Classic, SPL Transient Designer Dynamic Effects Processor Model 9842, SPL Vitalizer Stereo MK2 Model 9526, Empirical Labs EL8 Distressor, API550A, 550B and 560, Tube Tech Equalizer EQ 1A and GMI parametric Equalizer Series Model 8200.
